![]() ![]() We were so happy that real people were using our platform even though it was still buggy and in an early phase. I can still remember the day we celebrated getting our first 100 users in a month. We had a vision of revolutionizing the way we communicate with audio. What started as a side project in my room with Xander Kanon sitting on my floor working in the late hours besides our jobs. We are immensely proud to announce that Voicy has raised a 1.3$ million pre-seed round with GFC and many other great angle investors from big-tech firms.ģ years ago Xander Kanon, Joey de Kruis and me couldn't have ever imagined that this day would come where we would raise a round and be featured in techcrunch! Voicy wants to pwn gamers with audio memes Some more of the other great Angels: Jeroen Bertrams, Wouter Kneepkens, Kayee Cheung, Sunita Kaur, Jim Ribbans, Jan Joost, Michael S., Daan Jansonius, Alexander Sainty, Niels van Deuren, Gianluca V., Gustave Sauveroche, David Vismans, Bryan Batista, Asad K., Gabriele Chiaranz, Ripsy Bandourian, Florian Horbach, Diego Camilleri, Andrea Carini Charles Prickaerts Matthijs van Voorst Michel van Aalten Tim Wanders Eric Warners Matthijs van Voorst Roxane Rafatian What's the Shutterstock like database for sounds you want to use on TikTok or Instagram Reels? Which platform is the Splice for short sounds? Where do Twitch streamers get their sound board for streaming?Īnd with that, we say: LinkedIn, we need that integration soon) Last but not least, Voicy's database of sounds provides the answer to some other questions: ❓ Random example: When Hinge started voice prompts, almost 50% of users played them on profiles. But no matter if C2C, B2B or B2C - companies look for ways to enrich their apps and sound is a central piece nowadays. This also includes the consumerized business world from Slack to Choco to any customer service app. Nowadays, messaging as a feature is becoming core to many other apps, from Gaming to Dating. ![]() Yet it doesn't stop at pure messaging apps □ 285 minutes a day in a Discord voice chat and WhatsApp users share over 7 billion voice messages per day on the app. Today via their website, soon via app and finally one day integrated directly into messaging services like Discord or WhatsApp, just like GIFs today. ![]() This could be a simple meme sound or a famous movie quote. When an Emoji or a GIF doesn't really do service in expressing emotions because the sound is the core content, that's when you send a Voicy. They explained that the basic idea was simple: GIPHY for voice. ![]() When I first met Voicy's co-founders Xander, Joey and Milan, I was truly blown away by the community and momentum the team had been able to build just by bootstrapping a website: In not even 1 year they had gotten to 1.1 MILLION monthly active users, partly thanks to having already landed a partnership with Rakuten Viber (where Voicy users have sent >20m audio messages). With that, I'm happy to announce Global Founders Capital's lead in Voicy's €1.2 million pre-seed alongside amazing Angels such as Jeronimo (CEO Deezer), Sven (Global Growth Spotify), Alessio & Tim (Co-Founders Jodel), Oskar (COO Acast), Mark (Founder Ace & Tate) and many other great individuals. I liked every chapter even when the main subject was a film I didn't care for much, with the exception of the very last chapter which is a dialogue between the two authors and serves little purpose but to be redundant and seemingly pretentious. Thanks TechCrunch for this great article on our new portfolio company Voicy □ While I'm into a lot of shit like this anyway (all though I never really cared much for Rocky Horror and have a hard time with a lot of John Waters.and I haven't seen "Pink Flamingos") I think the authors have created a really fascinating read not only about the timeline of events, but the religious ritualistic elements inherent in multiple viewings of a film (almost like a catholic mass), and how the counterculture, punk, homosexuality, drugs, gory comics, and even the election of Reagan all contributed to the legacy of these films. Key films discussed (some given their own chapters) include: "Rocky Horror Picture Show", "El Topo", "Night of the Living Dead", "Pink Flamingos", "Eraserhead", "The Harder They Come", "Performance", "Freaks", "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls", "Chelsea Girls", other films by Warhol, Paul Morrissey, Derek Jarman, Anger, Brakhage, etc. While I was expecting some sort of compilation of culty/campy films, this book reads more like a New York-centered history of midnight screenings and cult successes from the 1960s to early 1980s. ![]()
